JOB TITLE: HEAD MESS HALL ATTENDANT-LARGE CAMP DEPARTMENT: KITCHEN DIRECT REPORT: CHEF
PURPOSE:
A big part of Aramark Remote Services is our catering and food service. The importance of a clean and well-maintained kitchen should never be underestimated. First impressions of any camp are made when the customer or visitor opens the door and steps inside. Pride in quality food service is a crucial aspect to all clients. Reporting to the Chef, the Head Mess Hall Attendant supervises and coordinates all General Helpers and Dishwashers. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean and well stocked work environment in the dinning room and kitchen areas, while providing exceptional customer service.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Meet daily with Chef to discuss any duties or requirements pertaining to work area. 2. Provide supervision, guidance and support to all General Helpers and Dishwashers. This will include, but is not limited to: training and development to all General Helpers and Dishwashers through coaching and mentoring, delegation of assigned job tasks, direction and assistance with personnel problems, and employee evaluation and performance management. 3. Meet daily with all General Helpers and Dishwashers to improve team communication. Meetings must include, but is not limited to: discussion of job duties or requirements pertaining to work area and workplace safety/hazard concerns. 4. Ensure that General Helper and Dishwasher duties are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Conduct spot checks and final inspection of Kitchen and Dinning area. Assist General Helpers and Dishwashers with completion of all General Helper and Dishwasher duties as per job descriptions.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist with the shut-down of each Aramark facility when required. This will include, but is not limited to: inventory reports, overall cleaning duties. 2. Observe and report any repairs or damages in work area to Head Mess Hall Attendant. 3. Comply with all HACCP, WHMIS, and Food Safe standards. 4. Comply with all Aramark Remote Services policies and procedures. 5. Any other duties as assigned by Chef, Field Supervisor, Human Resources Coordinator, or Operations Manager.
STAFF SUPERVISORY/MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Head Mess Hall Attendants are responsible for the supervision of all General Helpers and Dishwashers working in Aramark Remote Services facilities. Numbers of employees under supervision are dependant on the particular Aramark Remote Services facility assigned, and fluctuate to match business needs.

INTERACTION WITH PATRONS AND PUBLIC:
The Head Mess Hall Attendant provides respectful and courteous service to all Aramark Remote Services clients and employees. Interaction and communication with clients and employees may be carried out by telephone, in person or by written communication.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Head Mess Hall Attendants are required to perform a variety of physical duties within the position. A list of general physical requirements is provided below:
• Must be able to lift, carry, or pull up to 50 lbs. • Ability to climb ladders, step stools, or stairs. • Do a combination of standing, walking, squatting, or kneeling. • Ability to perform repetitive hand work, which requires full use of both hands • Ability to perform work with arms at full length • Must be able to work with arms above shoulder height
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
All Head Mess Hall Attendants are required to work on a rotational schedule. Hours worked will transpire during weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. This position may be required to work split shifts. Head Mess Hall Attendants generally work in a very remote location where there is limited access to and from the Aramark Remote Services facility with extended travel to and from site. Travel to and from site will be provided by Aramark. Head Mess Hall Attendants will be required to perform duties in indoor and outdoor working conditions, with little or no supervision. Head Mess Hall Attendants must be able to work in cold/freezing environments (fridges) or hot environments (kitchens).
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
1. Head Mess Hall Attendants must possess good communication, interpersonal and organization skills. 2. Must possess excellent customer service skills. 3. Ability to work effectively and efficiently supervised and unsupervised. 4. Head Mess Hall Attendants must be in good health and physical condition to perform duties assigned. 5. Head Mess Hall Attendants must have 1 or more years experience in a related field of work, preferably the camp catering environment. 6. Head Mess Hall Attendants 2 or more years experience in a managerial role. 7. Must be fluent and literate in the English language. 8. WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) Certification is mandatory 9. First Aid certification is an asset. 10. HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), Basic, and Advanced Food Safe training job or site specific. 11. Knowledge of Aramark Remote Services policies and procedures.
