PURPOSE:

A big part of ARAMARK Remote Workplace Services is our catering and food service. The importance of a clean and well-maintained kitchen should never be underestimated. First impressions of any camp are made when the customer or visitor opens the door and steps inside. Pride in quality food service is a crucial aspect to all clients. Reporting to the Chef, the General Helper position is a non-supervisory role, responsible for preparing and stocking kitchen menu items, as well as, maintaining a clean and safe work environment throughout ARAMARK Remote Workplace Services facilities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Meet daily with the Chef to discuss any duties or requirements pertaining to work area.
2. Clean and maintain all kitchen areas of ARAMARK facilities as per ARAMARK cleaning schedules. This will include: heavy equipment (hood and oven vents), dining area, floors, and all areas of back of house operation. Ensure all chemicals are used and stored correctly and according to WHMS standards. Sweep and mop all floors in the kitchen complex with the exception of washrooms and other designated common areas. Keep floors dry at all times to prevent accidents from occurring.
3. Assist with cleaning and sanitizing all dish and cook ware thoroughly of all food particles. Ensure dish machine is operating at peak efficiency. If required temperatures are not being met, report deficiency to the Chef immediately so problem can be rectified.
4. Ensure clean dish and cook ware are stored appropriately for re-use. Stock and replenish food service items such as cutlery, dishes, glasses, cups, and condiments during and after all meal periods.
5. Assist in the preparation of food items including, but not limited to: peeling vegetables, preparing bacon, cracking eggs, making sandwiches, and dishing up pastries and desserts. Prepare and provide adequate quantities of daily salad bar choices for lunch and dinner meals according to menu plans.
6. Assist in the serving of hot and cold food items as required at meal times. Prepare hot beverages as close to meal serving times as possible and keeping beverages replenished throughout the meal time. Refill cold beverages as required.
7. Change oil in deep fryer in accordance with ARAMARK Remote Workplace Services guidelines.
8. Ensure all refrigerated food items are dated and correctly covered. Proper rotation of all food items must be maintained as per Food Safety and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) guidelines.
9. Ensure all expired foods are properly disposed of. Empty and disinfect all garbage containers daily.
10. Maintain personal cleanliness and hygiene throughout scheduled shift.
11. Assist the Chef with the unloading and storage of all supplies and groceries.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist with the shut-down of each ARAMARK facility when required. This will include, but is not limited to: inventory reports, overall cleaning duties.
2. Observe and report any repairs or damages in work area to Head Mess Hall Attendant.
3. Comply with all HACCP, WHMIS, and Food Safe standards.
4. Comply with all ARAMARK Remote Workplace Services policies and procedures.
5. Any other duties as assigned by Chef, Field Supervisor, Human Resources or Operations Manager.

INTERACTION WITH PATRONS AND PUBLIC:

The General Helper provides respectful and courteous service to all ARAMARK Remote Workplace Services clients and employees. Interaction and communication with clients and employees may be carried out by telephone or in person.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

General Helpers are required to perform a variety of physical duties within the position. A list of general physical requirements is provided below:

• Must be able to lift, carry, or pull up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders, step stools, or stairs.
• Do a combination of standing, walking, squatting, or kneeling.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand work, which requires full use of both hands.
• Ability to perform work with arms at full length.
• Must be able to work with arms above shoulder height.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:

All General Helpers are required to work on a rotational schedule. Hours worked will transpire during weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. This position may be required to work split shifts. General Helpers generally work in a very remote location where there is limited access to and from the ARAMARK Remote Workplace Services facility with extended travel to and from site. Travel to and from site will be provided by ARAMARK. General Helpers will be required to perform duties in indoor and outdoor working conditions. General Helpers must be able to work in cold/freezing environments (fridges) or hot environments (kitchens).

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. General Helpers must possess good communication, interpersonal and organization skills.
2. Must possess excellent customer service skills.
3. Ability to work effectively and efficiently supervised and unsupervised.
4. General Helpers must be in good health and physical condition to perform duties assigned.
5. General Helpers must have 1 or more years experience in a related field of work, preferably the camp catering environment.
6. General Helpers must be fluent and literate in the English language.
7. WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) Certification is mandatory.
8. First Aid certification is an asset.
9. HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point), Basic, and Advanced Food Safe training job or site specific.
10. Knowledge of ARAMARK Remote Workplace Services policies and procedures.
